The Haunting Demons

watcher_diariesDestiny had been through a dreadful experience in the "Haunted House". She told me a great deal about it before we settled down to serious research into the problem.
Fortunately, she has some facility with the Internet, and she researched on the computer while I searched the books. I also contacted Nikki Wood and asked her to check the books in the Magic Box.
We eventually acertained that these are, almost certainly, Anasazi demons. The name would translate, approximately, to "The Great Ones", in Navajo. They have the ability to possess a human body, after driving out the soul of the original inhabitant. However, they are believed to use some artificial means to do this, even when working as a team.
The interesting thing is that they do not destroy the souls - even though the human soul is, apparently, much stronger than the demon essence. They are believed to keep the souls in storage, using them as a kind of spiritual battery and drawing upon them for energy.
There are indications that, once released, the original souls will "home in on" the possessed bodies. An individual demon is, apparently, no match for a human soul, and will be driven out and destroyed.
We also ascertained that their usual habitat centres on Arkansas - and specifically, on the "Serpentine Effigy". The fact that they have, historically, tended to remain in the proximity of a mound shaped like a giant snake may be an indication that they are serpent-worshippers.
The fact that they are now active in Sunnydale may well imply some connection with The Lamia. However, that is merely speculation, at this point.
It is clear that our next step should be a raid on the Haunted House itself, in the hope of discovering the area in which the extracted souls have been stored. I hope that all the facts were available - it seems that there is nothing esoteric about the release of the souls; one simply smashes the container and the soul returns to the body from which it was extracted.
Nor does it require specialist knowledge to destroy the demons. Simple swords and crossbows should suffice. When Destiny decided that she needed some fresh air I told her that I would try to contact Buffy, Xander and Willow while she took her break.
However, I have been unable to do so, thus far. I left messages, asking those available to liase with us at the Magic Box.
